Founders Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford started Aston Martin in 1914. Two had seen some success selling Singer, race cars, but wanted to craft their own vehicles, with an emphasis on sophistication and refinement. The brand is named after the founder of the Aston Martin and Clinton Hill Climb, where the duo raced cars Singer.
The original Aston Martin was best known in racing circles. In 1920, the brand had made its first appearance abroad, to participate in the Grand Prix of France, also participated in the Le Mans 24 hours. The brand has seen its share of financial difficulties during the '20s and '30s, going through many changes in ownership. In the 1990s, considerable efforts of Ford began to bear fruit. The beautiful DB7 debut mid-decade and has been a hit with critics and buyers. Fortuna Aston Martin continued to rise in the 2000s with the release of V12 Vanquish success, the DB9 and V8 Vantage. However, after Ford's financial difficulties led to the sale of Aston Martin in 2007 to a group of investors, including a pair of investment companies in Kuwait. The latest models include the exotic DBS, which is a more muscular version of the DB9, and the four doors, four-seat Rapide. In fact, the current Aston Martin range includes some of the most desirable cars in the world.
